Olav Bjarte Fosso (1958) was a Professor at the Department of Electric Energy, NTNU, from 2002 to 2023. He is currently a Professor Emeritus (NTNU), Senior Research Scientist (SINTEF Energy Research - Part-time), Consultant, and Independent Researcher.
He has previously held positions as Senior Research Scientist at SINTEF Energy Research (1989 – 2002) and Scientific Advisor (2002 – 2010). Fosso has an MSc and a PhD in Power Engineering from NTNU. He was the Head of the Department of Electric Power Engineering from 2009 to 2013. He was the Director of NTNU's Strategic Research Area Energy from September 2014 to September 2016. He held the role of a Scientific Coordinator of FME Cineldi (Research Center on Smartgrids) (2021 – 2023).
His research activities involve hydropower planning (short-, medium, and long-term), market integration of intermittent generation, smart energy systems, and signal analysis for the study of power system dynamics and stability.
